Complete architectural renovation and seismic rehabilitation of a 4,000 s.f. commercial building in the South of Market area of San Francisco. The design includes the conversion of the second level to a studio and production facility for LUX Design, a graphic art and design firm, and creation of Gallery LUX at the first level.
The seismic "X" braces, vertical circulation, views and communication between floors are elements providing the principal formal and visual organization in the space. Walls are cut away and structural frames arranged to allow views to the stairs and from floor to floor throughout the building.
